17/12/10 News Update

701 for Refurbishment

It is now believed that Balloon car 701 will soon be receiving an overhaul and centre door pods for it to be used in the main operating fleet from 2012 onwards. With 701 now being retained, 723 is now expected to be for sale  as only 10 balloon cars are expected to be modified for future use on the tramway. This news also brings good news for Balloon 717 which is now to be kept in original condition and not to be fitted with centre door pods, although this will limit the usage it is pleasing to see a “heritage” balloon car will be kept in Blackpool.
